Ghosts, ghouls, poltergeists, spirits, apparitions – there are many names for the strange and often unexplained appearances that haunt buildings and residences all over the world.
Although many people do not believe that ghosts exist and many others believe that their presences can be explained with science, there is certainly a tradition of ghostly beings scaring people throughout the centuries and so they must therefore be given some degree of credibility. Whatever you believe, there's no hiding from the fact that every year hundreds of thousands of people complain of being haunted by ghosts, whilst many more choose to spend their leisure time being thrilled by ghost movies and novels. Humankind simply has a fascination with the supernatural.
But what exactly are ghosts, and why do we find ourselves so drawn to them? Are they real, and can they be gotten rid of? Are we simply victims of our own imaginations, or is there some degree of credibility in the centuries-old fascination we have with the supernatural?
Despite the skepticism that surrounds the topic, there are many believers out there who truly think that they have had experiences with ghostly beings. Many more have had a brush with the paranormal and are still looking for a logical explanation. Of course, you may choose to explain your experience by saying that it was a trick of the light, the heat of the day, or even the way the furniture was arranged. The alternative, perhaps, is altogether too terrifying to consider – that ghosts may actually be real.
